As wise old Dr. Seuss once said, “You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” Whether you are trying to plan a romantic candlelight dinner for an anniversary, their birthday, Valentine’s day, or just because, we know they are bound to love and appreciate the love and effort you put in (after all, you are on the internet searching for ideas!).
Candlelight dinners are amongst the most romantic ideas for a date, as candles can set the ambience just right. Low lighting creates an atmosphere that stimulates romance, love, and affection. If you use coconut wax candles, they emit a sweet and pleasant aroma that will enrich the atmosphere. These candles make your romantic date a memorable occasion.
Check out these eight romantic candle light dinner ideas at home:
Idea #1: Rose petals and flowers
Unsurprisingly, rose petals and flowers are among the most romantic touches to add to a candlelit dinner at home. Rose petals are easily customizable— you can use them to spell out something simple such as “I love you,” or you can scatter them around the area to turn up the romance level. For an extra simple touch, you could even buy a fresh bouquet and put them in a vase to create the ambience typical of a candlelight dinner.
We suggest baby’s breath or tulips if you do not want to purchase the classic rose bouquet. For a spin on roses, you could even buy coloured roses! This suggestion can be incorporated into any tips below, so keep it in mind!
Idea #2: Use the garden
If you have a garden, why not make use of it? A garden is perfect for a candlelight dinner during sunset or even a late-night dinner underneath the stars. Simply lay down a blanket, spread your food, scatter candles around the area (careful not to light grass or plants on fire), and enjoy yourselves.
This idea is essentially a glorified picnic during the nighttime! We love the inclusion of nature to connect two souls in their romantic journey.
Idea #3: Use a tent
This suggestion is similar to the idea above; however, there is a twist! Pitch a tent in the backyard (or even in the living room if you do not have a backyard), place candles around each corner, bring dinner inside, and enjoy being in your little hut.
Once again, be careful not to burn the tent’s plastic or start a house fire. We love this suggestion because when the two of you are inside the tent, you feel as though you are sheltered away from the world. Play a movie, just talk, and enjoy the atmosphere.
Idea #4: Pillow and blanket fort
Not all of us have tents, unfortunately. What we can vouch for, though, is that most of us have blankets and pillows. As such, a simple alternative to the cozy space dictated by a tent is a cozy space dictated by a fort made of pillows and blankets. This is a great idea for a date before your candlelight dinner! Channel your inner child and get building!
Idea #5: Dinner on the balcony
Living in an apartment? Not a problem! Perhaps you have a balcony you can use to emulate the same environment as the suggestions above. You do not even need to do anything fancy. You could just bring a couple of candles, dishes, and wine glasses onto the patio and call it a night!
You can still enjoy the stars overhead or the sunset in front of you while sitting comfortably outdoors. If you like the same picnic atmosphere, you could bring pillows outside to sit on if your patio floor is uncomfortable.
Idea #6: Dinner in bed
After a long week, it is understandable to just have dinner in bed. To turn up the romance level, make your next dinner in bed candlelit and enjoy your partner falling even more head over heels for you! Trays are your best friends for dinners in bed.
Wooden standing trays allow you to hold the food you are serving while ensuring your bed remains clean. There is nothing quite like cozying up to your partner after a long day with candles lighting your faces aglow and warming your hearts.
Idea #7: Movie night
This can be combined with many of the suggestions above to make the perfect date and dinner night. Whether you have a phone, a laptop, a projector, or a TV, putting on a movie is the perfect activity to focus on during dinner or background noise to play during intimate conversations.
It can set the mood so if you want to laugh and enjoy each other’s company, try opting for a comedy or romantic comedy. Try a drama or romance movie if you want to get emotionally intimate.
Idea #8: Teamwork
Teamwork is always a great way to bring people together! For a spin on a classic candlelight dinner, you could choose to cook the dinner together: yet another perfect activity before enjoying each other’s company when eating.
If that is not quite your style, you could work on a bonding activity such as a card game to ask and answer questions about yourselves! The possibilities are endless.
