Travelling abroad would be less exciting if you had to leave your vape pen at home. Fortunately, you are allowed to take it on the plane. But there are different precautions you have to take if you want your vacation to run smoothly.
You will be allowed to bring your vape pen on the plane as long as you keep it in your carry-on luggage and not in your checked luggage. Everything with your vape pen should be kept in your carry-on luggage. Remember that your airline might limit the number of vaping devices each passenger carries, so it might be best to only bring your favourite vape pen.
In addition, here are eight tips for travelling with a vape pen.
1. Remove your external battery while traveling
If your vape pen has an external battery, you will have to remove it from the device and store it separately to prevent any risk of ignition and explosion. It’s best to buy a case made specifically for carrying lithium batteries safely.
If you bring extra batteries with you, they also must be stored safely in your carry-on luggage. And if your vape pen has an internal battery that can’t be removed, be sure to at least remove your atomizer.
2. Remember you can’t bring too much liquids on the plane
You cannot bring more than a quart-sized bag of liquids with you on the plane. This means that shampoo, gels, creams, aerosols, and e-juices must be placed inside a small resealable bag you will keep in your carry-on after screening. And all those liquids must be in small bottles that contain no more than 3.4 ounces or 100 millilitres.
Keep this in mind when you decide how many bottles of e-juice you will bring with you on your travels.
3. Don’t bring full cartridges on the plane
If your vape pen uses cartridges, it’s best not to bring full cartridges with you on the plane. The pressure of the plane’s cabin could cause leaks or even explosions. Instead, choose cartridges that have been used a little, so they will be less likely to crack and burst.
Additionally, you should prefer plastic cartridges to glass cartridges. They will be safer during transit and while you carry them around during your vacation.
4. Consider keeping your vaping kit in its original packaging
Airport employees are probably familiar with vaping devices by now, but you could still get asked some questions if you have an unusual model of vape pen.
To simplify everything for you and your employees, be sure the labels on your vaping equipment are visible when you get to the airport’s security checkpoints. It could be a good idea to keep everything in its original packaging, so there is no question about whether what you are carrying with you is legal or not.
5. Don’t touch your vape pen while on the plane
You will probably not be allowed to vape while at the airport. And you certainly will not be allowed to vape while on the plane.
You should not touch your vape pen at all while on the plane. You will not be allowed to turn it on or charge it, so be sure your device is fully charged before you leave for your travels.
6. Don’t vape on public transportation
When you reach your destination, you should take a moment to vape when you leave the airport. Be sure to do it before you get on the subway or a bus, as vaping is usually forbidden on public transportation.
If you want to get in a taxi or a Uber, ask your driver if you are allowed to vape while you are sitting in their vehicle.
7. Protect your vape pen from the elements
You know it’s not a good idea to leave your vape pen out in the sun for too long. But this will be even more true if you are travelling to a warm and sunny destination. When not using your vape pen, keep it stored away from direct sunlight.
If you are travelling to a place where you will encounter cold weather, keep your vape pen warm as much as possible. Long exposure to cold weather will be hard on your device’s battery.
8. Check the local rules of your destination
Finally, if you want to know if vaping will be allowed at your hotel or resort, in public parks, and in other public venues, do some research before leaving your home.
